Project update – Little Lights – Philippines children
With support from Australia donors, the remarkable Little Lights program in the Philippines is providing:
- Holistic Christian radio program for children, targeting the social, emotional and physical needs of children.
- Educating children through arts, science and safety awareness.
- Life-changing bible teaching through dramatised bible stories.
- Protecting children from disaster with support from the National Disaster and Coordinating Council, Department of Social Welfare, Department of Education, and Luzon School for the Blind.
Little Lights is the only sustainable, far-reaching children’s radio program in the Philippines, and can be heard in local Tagalog language from 39 broadcasting stations across the country.
Thanks to your gifts in May, Little Lights was able to work in partnership with the National Disaster Coordinating Council and the Office of Civil Defence to give not just targeted and strategic disaster preparedness information, but also practical help before disaster strikes, and during disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes and floods.
NEXT STEPS…
The Philippines is one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries, with more floods, typhoons, mudslides and earthquakes than any other region on earth. The effects of disasters on the community, and on families, is devastating – especially for children.
The opportunity for the program to provide warning before disaster strikes, and then physical, psycho-social and spiritual help in the aftermath is significant. With committed Australian support, TWR is responding to the urgent need for a holistic disaster program by planning growth to provide practical aid and assistance in crisis.
PLEASE PRAY…
People in the Philippines have very little knowledge about Disaster Preparedness, and constant reminder is still necessary. Please pray during the disaster season from June to August that the message will reach those in remote communities. Pray also that we can reach victims with the biblical truth of God’s love for them – even through disaster.
