I’ve been watching a DVD produced by my colleagues in China. They love China! But their hearts ache for their people suffering enormous physical, emotional and spiritual problems. Economic disparity, drift to cities, poverty, abortion, marriage breakdown, child slavery, drug addiction, HIV/AIDS, mental despair and suicide!
It’s ironic that in the background I’m hearing that other great event in China – the Olympics. What an opportunity this is for Chinese leadership to show off their nation. How impressive it is! The lightshow presented to the world was incredible. Massive wealth spent to position China as superpower of the future.
But I can’t forget those haunting faces. Children with parents suffering HIV/AIDS! Orphans with HIV/AIDS! Grandparents called upon to look after their grandchildren! Disease, death and so much sadness and misery! This is about a missing generation!
All of this, because in poverty they sold their blood for a few yen! Now, because they’re so sick they can’t work! Their children have to look after them; and so, an educated future is being lost? What hope do they have without the love of Christ?
There are over one million people with AIDS in Henan alone. Why does this happen? What can we do to help our fellow human beings; loved by Jesus?
Do you remember that Jesus touched and healed the lepers? How do we encourage Christians in our country to not only pray, but show them our love by helping them in their need?
Li Xiu Ying, Leader of Zhu Ma Dian AIDS Community Care Program says, “They need our help in two main areas. One is for people to visit them, comfort them, pray with them, and worship God with them. The second is their physical needs – their living environment, the children’s livelihood and education.”
Through a well constructed program TWR and the church in China are helping. Would you join us to do more?
